Child Find is an ongoing process of public awareness activities, screening and evaluation designed to locate, identify, and refer as early as possible all young children with disabilities and their families who are suspected of having disabilities that may result in the need for special education and related services of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
GACHS fulfills Child Find obligations for all students suspected of having a disability ages 3 through 21. Children from birth to age three with disabilities will be referred to appropriate agencies for services. All referrals are considered confidential, and services are provided at no cost to the family. The parent, legal guardian, or surrogate parent retains the right to refuse services and are provided other procedural safeguards under federal and state law.
A free, appropriate, public education with a full continuum of services is available for students beginning in 9th grade and through age 21. For more information concerning eligibility criteria and referral procedures, contact VaNisha Jones Alexander at 404-937-5727 or email@example.com.
